DJ Matte Lock was raised on a diet of North American soul classics & Jazz by both parents. Born and raised in Toronto, Mat has now spent the majority of his adult life in Ottawa. As a child, he had been into a broad selection of music. Jazz, Hip Hop, and Techno in general were a great influence and made an impact on his style and vocabulary. Mat started to get into the electronic scene and the music of drum & bass, break beat, trance and the lounge genre. It wasn’t to long after he discoverd House music at Le Radio in Montreal, and was hooked forever.

"From listening to records I just knew what to do. I mainly taught myself. I did pretty well, but there were a few mistakes that I had just recently cleared up. I'd like to be able to continue to express myself as best as I can. I feel like I have a lot of work to do. I'm a student of the drum. I would like to be able to continue to let what is inside of me, which comes from all the music I hear, to come out. It's not really me, the music just comes through me.

My music reflects a lifetime of vinyl culture.
